Join me in raising awareness and support for lung cancer!

Thank you for visiting my Team Lung Love website!

My story: Before joining the team at Lung Cancer Alliance in early April, lung cancer was a disease that had not impacted me personally and of which I knew very little about. Looking back, my lack of awareness is astonishing, because of just how devastating this disease is. Through my daily work, I have not only learned the statistics, but I now know the names and stories of real people and their loved ones. Everyone has been touched by lung cancer in one way or another.

I have been running for fun for almost a year, and now I want to run to make a difference, as clichéd as that sounds. This fall, I will be running in three half marathons: the Lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon in Vancouver, Canada on August 23; the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon in D.C. on September 14; and the Boston Athletic Association Half Marathon in Boston on October 12. Through each of these races I will be raising funds for lung cancer, with the hopes of raising $500 by November 1, which marks the start of Lung Cancer Awareness Month. But I can only do this with your help! Please consider giving today to make a real difference in the lives of patients and their friends and families. Any amount helps – whether it is five dollars per race, a dollar for each of the forty miles to be run, or a one-time donation of a few dollars – because every dollar means more patients served, more advocacy for research funding, and more awareness of the impact of this disease.

Finally, I would like to share a few surprising facts with you:
- Lung cancer is the second leading cause of all deaths in the U.S., second only to heart disease.
- Lung cancer, with a 16% survival rate, causes more deaths than the next four cancers combined (colorectal, breast/female, pancreas, and prostate). The survival rate is so low because few cases are caught at an early, more curable stage, and there is very little federal funding for lung cancer research.
- Of people with lung cancer, 80% are former or never smokers. Roughly 2/3 of never smokers diagnosed with lung cancer are women; nearly 25,000 women who are never smokers will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year.
- Among veterans, particularly those over the age of 65, the lung cancer prevalence rate may be twice as high as the civilian population.

Please help me and Lung Cancer Alliance bring hope, compassion and support for all those touched by this disease, while raising national awareness and advocating for increased lung cancer research funding!

Thank you!
